The importance of a comprehensive sight test
It is a common perception that eye examinations are only required to check whether your vision needs correcting with glasses or contact lenses, however, a regular eye examination is also important for a number of other reasons.
Using the latest technology, our qualified optometrist conducts a highly comprehensive sight test which can identify early signs of conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration. Spotting something now could well prevent potential health or sight problems in the future.
Consider a regular eye examination part of your health care regime and put it in the safe hands of the experts at M Shepherd Optometrist.

Adult Eye Testing
With better eyesight, work, leisure and everyday tasks are easier, more comfortable and safer. Driving, playing sport and close-up work are just some of the daily tasks that could be much improved if poor vision is corrected.
Children’s Sight Tests
For children, early detection of sight problems could mean future issues are improved or even erased altogether with the right treatment. Educational difficulties caused by poor vision could also be eliminated.
Precision Sight Testing Equipment at M Shepherd
At M Shepherd we have invested in the latest equipment that effectively determines your precise prescription, meaning you’re guaranteed the very best vision with your new spectacles or contact lenses.
We also have equipment for checking the health of your eyes. Conditions such as cataracts and diabetic eye disease can be detected and we can measure the pressure inside the eye which will help determine whether glaucoma or ocular hypertension is present.
Your peripheral vision will be checked using automated ‘perimetry testing’. This measures your all-round sight and can help detect glaucoma or certain neurological problems.
Ever wondered what the inside of your eyes look like? With retinal imaging a photo is taken of each eye which enables the health of the eye to be monitored.
NHS Sight Test Entitlements

Choosing your frames & lenses
Made easier thanks to M Shepherd
Here at M Shepherd we offer for your benefit the latest dispensing technology to make choosing your frames and lenses as simple as possible.
Our 'frames on face' system involves taking photographs of you wearing the various frames you have selected which you can then view whilst wearing your existing glasses. So now you can clearly compare and select the frames that suit you best.
- And if you are in a quandary about which lenses to choose for your new spectacles, we can help by visually demonstrating the benefits of the different options available, rather than just describing them to you.
You can book your sight test by calling in to see us at the practice in The Street, Long Stratton or by calling 01508 532669.
We are open from 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
We will always do our best to accommodate any out of hours appointments or urgent needs.
